Hummingbirds!

I always love it when my hummingbirds come back. They first start appearing here around March, but in late April, early May, I have to add new food almost every few days.  They zip and zoom and argue about who’s “flower” it is. They are such fun to watch!  Today was the first day to get out and shoot the “dominant” male at my feeder.  He seems pretty relaxed around me, so I might get more good shots going forward.

Our Rufous Hummingbirds

We’ve had a pretty steady stream of Rufous Hummingbirds to our feeder this past month.  We definitely have a dominant male that has claimed the feeder and it’s fun to watch him chase off the other males.  Here are a few shots of our smallest feathered visitors.

Yesterday afternoon was a great day for watching my backyard birds. I sat and watched the hummers zip in and out and the adult male chasing off pretenders to his throne… A few shots from the afternoon’s watching:
