More Birds from Reifel

Some sandhills and snow Geese from Reifel again…

Things are much wetter now, so the photo ops are going to be fewer and farther between.  Enjoy these!

And another view of this subtly beautiful duck:

For these and other shots in larger format, you can find them at my flickr set for the visit to the Reifel Bird Sanctuary on November 12, 2009

Cedar Waxwings

16 11 2009

Finally, I managed to get out and get some good shots of the cedar waxwings visiting at the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta last week.

Jumpy little birds – and VERY pretty:

1. posing

2. They seem to jump off the branches and almost hover while trying to find a new spot to land

3. Showing off their lovely colours – including the tail that looks like it has been dipped in yellow paint :)

4. No matter how good looking a species may be – sometimes there’s just a WTF moment. This poor guy was having a bad hair day (it wasn’t THAT windy)

I hope you enjoyed your virtual visit with our waxwings.

Amazing sight at Reifel Yesterday

17 05 2009

Out at the Reifel Bird sanctuary, we came across Mrs Hummingbird on her nest.  She has at least one little one there, but I couldn’t get close enough to shoot the little ‘un well.  It looked like it had just hatched a couple of days ago.

Here’s the best shot I got of mom on the nest:

I think she’s a rufous.
