Spring has sprung in Vancouver!

2 05 2014

Yesterday was a spectacular day around Vancouver.  I took the day off to walk around our wetlands and see what I could find.  It was a bonanza of small birds!

1) Tons of Marsh Wrens… building and singing!

A walk around Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary

7 04 2013
Out at Reifel, the marsh wrens were building and calling like mad. Many of the Northern ducks were already flying away, but a few other regulars also made an appearance, resulting in an interesting walk.

Some birds from my walk around Reifel

8 12 2010

Back on Nov 28th I went for 5 hour walk around the Reifel Bird Sanctuary.  While the weatherman promised sun, it was far from it.  More like hazy overcast.  Less than ideal photography weather.

The morning started out COLD and there was frost in places.  Most of the ponds were frozen over.  Always fun to watch the mallards come in for landings on ice and slide to a stop πŸ˜‰

Well, here are a few shots that turned out OK for the day – All shot with the 7D and 100-400L:

The sky was so dreary behind this poor baldy that I had to give him a nice blue gradient instead

As I was about to leave, word got out about a couple of Great Horned Owls in a tree… They were tucked up DEEP in the branches. ISO 12800 to even get a shot worth keeping!

A little marsh wren. You hear them and you see them flitting about. It was a nice change to be able to get a shot of one… My first time!
