After dropping Mrs Dragonspeed at the airport, I headed out to Westham Island for a nice walk around the Reifel Bird Sanctuary… in the COLD winter weather.  (Cold in Vancouver means a bit below 0C )  Some of the highlights are here

A walk around Reifel Sanctuary on Sunday

17 11 2015

I went out on Sunday to see if I could find a few willing posers as the weatherman had predicted sun – a rarity in Southwestern BC winters. OT was cloudy and SUPER windy to start, but the sun finally came out around 10-11am. Turns out the birds decided to show up too :)

A walk around Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary

7 04 2013
Out at Reifel, the marsh wrens were building and calling like mad. Many of the Northern ducks were already flying away, but a few other regulars also made an appearance, resulting in an interesting walk.

Catching up on some Photo Processing on a Wet Sunday

10 04 2011

It’s a wet, cool day out today, so I caught up on some of my birds from a couple of weeks ago.  I haven’t had a chance to do much work on them recently with a short trip to Cleveland in the middle and a website that I’m supposed to have done for somebody 😦

Well, here are the birds from a couple of weeks ago… all nicely geotagged with the new BT-Q1000XT (Fun little device)

Went for another walk around Reifel yesterday

31 12 2010

As you can tell, the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary is quickly becoming one of my favourite places to go spend 4-6 hours wandering around with a lens :)  Yesterday I went out with Mrs Dragonspeed.  She used the 100-400 most of the time while I shot with the 70-200 + 2X converter.  That  being said, I even slapped the 2X onto the 100-400 to get a couple of the shots below (1 and 5) for 800mm of manual focusing goodness on the 7D

It was forecast to be clear, and for a change the weather man was right! It was a cool clear, crisp day. It made for some good shooting. Here are a few from the walk.

1. A RARE visitor to Southwest BC – Northern Hawk Owl
