7" tall Lineman in Madden 2006

27 09 2005

Will Michael King of the New York Jets EVER live this down.  The ribbing from his teammates must be horrible.   Due to a bug in Madden 2006, He appears to be 7″ tall!  Luckily he still plays like the 6’3″ 298lb lineman that he is.

Einstein’s famous equation (often misquoted as E = mc2) E2 = m2c4 is 100 years old today.  Thanks Einstein for not allowing the education system to strangle your creativity…. Brilliant minds are hard to come by.

Lord of War

27 09 2005

I went out to a movie with Mrs. DragonSpeed on Sunday night.  It was a change from the big screen action flicks that we have seen in the past.  We went to see Nicholas Cage in Lord of War

A wonderfully dark movie about a man who realizes that selling guns is a much better business than selling food (restaurant), and the fact that he seems oblivious to all the moral implications that you and I would feel.

As usual, Cage scores a winner.

Looks like we moved!

26 09 2005

Well, kind of moved.

We appear to be located at http://free-blog-site.com/dragonspeed now.  Basically, if you do a search and replace for the blogontheweb.com and replace it with free-blog-site.com  All your bookmarks and RSS for me should be fixed. [8-)]

Cops abuse power for personal vendetta

21 09 2005

And this time…it’s in Canada!

Edmonton police sergeant Bill Newton didn’t like what a columnist wrote about him, so after looking up his plate and info, he had him followed to a bar to try and catch him for DUI.

The reporter took a cab home.   Someone ratted on the Sergeant, and there’s a hearing going on.  Great.  More and more like our neighbors, this time in a BAD way 😦

International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

19 09 2005

Well, blow me down! Thar, off the windward bow, the frigate Jimmy! Ready your blunderbuss, and up the ratlines! Prepare the cannons with knipple-shot! We’ll hit ‘im broadside! Ready about?! Helm’s alee!!!

It’s International Talk Like a Pirate day!!!!  Aaarrrrggggh!

Apparently my Pirate Name is: Drity Sam Flint

You’re the pirate everyone else wants to throw in the ocean — not to get rid of you, you understand; just to get rid of the smell. Like the rock flint, you’re hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you’re easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!

Halo 2

14 09 2005

It seems I have neglected to blog about one of my obsessions these days.  Halo 2 on XBox Live.  Very addictive  – Damn!

You can find me as DragonSpeedTheB  (don’t know who, but someone ELSE has dragonspeed apparently)

Add me to your Friends list if you want to team up some time.

Why Editors matter….

14 09 2005

If you read the headline, it would appear that masking tape, duct tape, and that ever handy invisible tape have had a jihad declared.  (Great for the staple and glue markets!)  But, when you read the article, you realise that an over zealous editor tried to spice up the fact that a recording was released where a militant declares war.  Hardly as exciting.

Love those editorial slip ups.

A quick story of why you have an individual username

8 09 2005

Over at the Sharktank…

Standard situation…. Sysadmin leaves, new guy comes in and changes passwords for security….

“I immediately get a call from the database admin, saying she is locked out of her computer,” fish says. “After confirming her username, changing her password, testing her account and confirming network connectivity, I can’t explain why the database admin can’t log in.

Hilarity ensues.

Now if only MS would track things by USER, not simply group.  If I (member of Administrators) do something to a file, it then belongs to Administrator.  It’s darn tough to own things as an Administrative user.   It would be nice though, since then I could find which OTHER Administrative user screwed up the settings in the config file last 😉

National Guard moving into New Orleans to restore order

2 09 2005

An interesting read on the CBC online website about the National Guard moving in to restore order

A scary quote:

Blum of the National Guard said 7,000 National Guardsmen arriving in Louisiana on Friday would be dedicated to restoring order in New Orleans. He said half of them had just returned from assignments overseas and are “highly proficient in the use of lethal force.” He pledged to “put down” the violence “in a quick and efficient manner.”

Don’t get in their way!

Recreational Sockeye open on the non-tidal Fraser River

2 09 2005

As of dawn yesterday (Sept 1) they opened the recreational fishery for sockeye.  It looks like it will be a 7 day opening at most.  If you’re looking for me this weekend, I’ll be on the river 😉
