Ziff Davis, that giant publishing house wants too much control over who links to them!

8 08 2004

2004-08-08:  Ziff-Davis wants to make up.  They say “Oops“, looks like the legal beagles are sniffing the ground too hard…  Looks like we were getting all bent out of shape for nothing.  Drats!  Where’s the fun in that.

The good folks at PocketPCTools have hit an interesting snag.  They have been bringing us interesting information about what’s hot and what’s not in the PocketPC world for some time now.  I discovered them back when I purchased my IPAQ 4150, and have loved their syndicated feed.  Recently, they linked to, and quoted some interesting information from an eWeek article about Bluetooth.  The article can be found here.  They didn’t copy the whole article, and give no attribution. They simply excerpted text, and linked, while making sure it was attibuted.

Ziff Davis has filed a “cease and desist” with them.  Telling them that they MUST drop their story about the story, and no longer link.

So…. My devious mind says “C’mon people  – Link to the story ( http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1620482,00.asp ), AND to PocketPCTools article about this inanity.

Let’s see if anyone at Ziff Davis gets the point.  People linking to, and talking about your articles is a GOOD THING

Please leave feedback if you’ve done this. (or at least link to this blog post to let me know)
